121tech Web Site - Version 2
It seems that all web developers go through stages of creating their personal web site master piece only to discover again and again, that time, energy and mental space are of short supply.
Definitely not a master piece, but functional and a good start!
Finding mental and physical space to develop this website has been a challenge for the past three years as my attention has been spread thinly across multiple projects. From looking after my family, running my farm business and working in a managerial position left me with little energy to put towards this site. However, change is the constant of life and with this constant I find myself in a new place, literally and figuratively.
My family has recently relocated to a different part of the country. One that is familiar, as we lived here ten years ago and also one that is quite refreshing as the main burdens on my time that I had at our previous residence no longer apply. I find myself in a space where I can put time into developing this part of my life again. This site and more importantly, this blog, is a starting point for sharing learning, code and possibly a little philosophy about web development and coding as a 53 year old man.
Most of the development work that I do revolves around the Frappe Framework as a back-end database. I have used this back-end to set up and maintain my farm business and will be using it to serve an industry association web site in the near future. This industry website will initially be a font facing brochure that will transition to a member-only portal, sharing specific industry and government information. This functionality will be a showcase of my knowledge and skills developing with front-end and back-end technologies.
I started out my journey in web development in 1995 using plain HTML and the FileMaker Pro database application on the Macintosh platform. I now exclusively use Linux systems and have done so for the past 17 years. It does not seem to matter what operating system we use to find and create solutions for people, it just matters that we have the mental space and time to be able to bring forth these solutions.
May this site, one day, provide solutions for you.
